Choosing the perfect location for your Wedding portraits

Written by Photographer Jasmine Lee.

Your wedding is one of the most important days in your lives and what better way to preserve these memories than through beautiful photographs. I believe a photographer is an imperative vendor to have for your wedding because they will capture your very special day. Your wedding will flash by in an instant and I imagine you’ll want to remember everything. Along with capturing candid photos, a photographer will also capture portraits throughout the day.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting all of Riverside Farm’s properties and I must say it is a photographer’s visionary dream. There are endless locations that can be used for portraits on the property of Riverside Farm. When it comes to searching for the best locations for photos, I’d like to dig a little deeper in a few elements that makes a beautiful photograph: location, lighting, and minimal distractions.

Location
The location in your photos will help tell your story and spark interests. It can be anything from Riverside Farm’s open fields, their barn doors, or the pathways along the venue.

Lighting
Lighting is crucial for photography. Without light, a photo cannot be made! If you’re a bride who likes natural light, consider finding a location with shade whether it’s coming from trees or shade from the barn. If the weather calls for overcast skies, you’ll have even lighting outdoors and anywhere on Riverside Farms will make a perfect picture. If you’re indoors, indirect light from the windows will work great. If you like the look of flash photography, you’ll have the ability to take pictures virtually anywhere!

Minimal Distractions
When picking out locations, it’s important to have minimal distractions in the photos. Make sure there are unnecessary items out of the photo, i.e., water bottles, chairs, purses, cars, etc. While it’s tempting to pick a location with various elements, sometimes it’s best to choose a background that’s simple. Remember, less is more! A compelling photo will have a subject that stands out.

I hope this helps with choosing locations within Riverside Farms. There are countless possibilities to make gorgeous photographs at this venue.  Above all, have fun and make every moment count!

Cheers!
